Reputation Management Agencies: Dawn Of A New Era

Reputation Management Agencies vs. Search Engine Marketing Agencies

When you consider that reputation management agencies mostly do work related to organizing the prominence of certain search results of others, you may ask yourself how are these reputation management experts different than SEO providers.

The search community has woken up to the fact that the topic of search engine reputation management is in parallel to SEO trends but distinctly separate matter and expertise. For the practitioner, there is the realization that customer interface is also very different. Often times, the person needing the service is distort, needing answers and solutions with a sense of urgency not found in the typical customer seeking SEO services A situation that requires the sensibilities of a PR person. Most reputation management agencies deal in this type of image and communication crisis very frequently.

Moreover, the first wave of leading solution providers such as Brand.com and Reputation.com have a cookie cutter practice that does not yield the desired results in most search reputation problems. This is plainly evident by the number of disgruntled customer reviews found on the very sites the service tries to push down.

The interest is Reverse SEO is growing for a couple of years now, but has especially come to light this past year. In particular since 2014 EU decision regarding the “right to be forgotten”. There is speculation that this type of law would be transported to the United States in the next few years; much to the chagrin of freedom of speech protectors.

Reverse SEO, which is one of the main techniques of online reputation management, uses some of the main principles of SEO, which will be reviewed in detail in this blog, but requires a different framework and roll out. In a way, I consider this book to be a 2 in 1. Over the last 20 years I have accumulated a wealth of knowledge about SEO, I have kept a journal of the most useful elements that drive up search results and I am sharing them for the first time with a wide member of the community. This blog could have been entitled confessions of a search engine insider or guru, I will leave it up to the reader to find the golden nuggets within these web pages.

As for why I am sharing this wealth of experience now? The lack of material written about Reverse SEO and reputation management was a catalyst for sure. But mentally this moment seems to me like a great point in time. I have been fortunate to have enjoyed an interesting career and watch evolve an industry for nearly half my life. From search pioneer to entrepreneur and executive. From an exciting consulting career to lecturing. The Industry has given me so much, I found my vocation, my passion for teaching and my wife Julie who was a former student of mine all from this industry.
