The search community has woken up to the fact that the topic of search engine reputation management is in parallel to SEO trends but distinctly separate matter and expertise. For the practitioner, there is the realization that customer interface is also very different. Often times, the person needing the service is distort, needing answers and solutions with a sense of urgency not found in the typical customer seeking SEO services A situation that requires the sensibilities of a PR person. Most reputation management agencies deal in this type of image and communication crisis very frequently.

Moreover, the first wave of leading solution providers such as Brand.com and Reputation.com have a cookie cutter practice that does not yield the desired results in most search reputation problems. This is plainly evident by the number of disgruntled customer reviews found on the very sites the service tries to push down.
