Discussing Information and Content That Can Be Removed or Suppressed from Google

If any of this information is accessible through Google’s search index, you have the right to request its removal as a user. All you have to do is fill out a form on Google, and they’ll take care of processing the request and removing the data.

If you cannot complete the request personally, you can allow a representative to do so on your behalf. The form will ask you to submit all URLs containing personal information to Google, removing them from their search results.

However, if a request is made, Google is willing to erase more than just personal information. You have the right to have other potentially damaging results removed.

Content That Is Exploitative in Nature

It’s no secret that many news organizations enjoy mentioning people’s names to increase traffic to their websites. Unfortunately, they frequently do so without the knowledge of the individual being discussed, and they will treat any rumors about you as if they were true. Worst of all, the website expects you to pay to remove these pieces. Everyone despises this exploitative activity, and it is worth resisting whenever it occurs. When such exploitative host sites try to take advantage of your name for traffic, Google is on your side.

Because posting items, whether genuine or false, might harm your personal and professional reputation, removing them is vital. Otherwise, you can end up suffering from the consequences of someone else’s actions. While Google is eager to assist in the removal of websites that try to extort money from you, some conditions must be followed.

Google, in particular, requires the following conditions to be met before attempting to remove the post:

  1. The content you’re attempting to remove concentrates on you as the main content.
  2. The website in question isn’t a well-known business review platform.
  3. The website will only erase content if you pay them or a third-party agency a predetermined amount.

If the URL you submit meets the aforementioned criteria, you can file a takedown request similar to the one described above. You can either submit it yourself or have someone else do it. Google will evaluate the request and remove the page from the search results in the same way that it would if your personal information was uploaded. There is, however, more that you can delete from Google’s search results if you believe they are detrimental.

Intimate Photographs Taken Without Consent

Images of oneself in intimate or compromising positions are one of the worst things that can ever appear on the internet. Any photographs or films that show you in a sexually explicit position posted without your permission are the type of stuff you don’t want to be seen by the general public.

To defend your reputation and retain your dignity as a human, it is reasonable to request that such imagery be removed from Google’s results. Fortunately, Google is more than happy to act against this. Rather than strangers on the internet, these photographs are usually reserved for those we know well. It is also against the law to upload such pictures to the internet without your permission. As a result, Google will assist you in removing any unwanted intimate photographs from the internet.

If you want an image to be removed from Google’s search results, it must match Google’s requirements. The image must include the following elements:

  1. Show you in your underwear, during a sexual act, or in a private moment.
  2. Have been uploaded without your knowledge or permission.

These criteria aid in determining whether or not an image has the legal right to be made available for public consumption. If the photographs fall within one of the above categories, you can submit a takedown request to Google for review.

You’d submit the URLs where the photos are hosted, just like the others, so Google’s managers know which pages to remove from the search results.

If the photographs of you being shared are made up to make it appear as if you were in an intimate scenario, you have the right to have them removed. Fake images can be just as demoralizing as the real thing, especially now that modern software allows for more convincing fabrications.

Fortunately, Google provides the same takedown tools for fakes as it does for the real thing. However, the prerequisites are slightly different:

  1. The photograph must be a clear representation of yourself.
  2. The imagery must be demonstrated to be a forgery, which can be done with the correct software.
  3. Just like an actual image, the false images must have been distributed without your permission.

You will submit a request with the accompanying URLs to identify the pages you wish to be taken down, just as you would with real photos. Fake photos can damage your entire reputation as genuine ones, so you’ll want to go after them with the same zeal. Google, on the other hand, is quite willing to remove any harmful content from their pages if you can show that it is necessary.

What to Do If Google Isn’t Able to Assist

Now, if Google is unable to assist you in removing anything from their search results, you still have a choice. If the page you want to be removed does not match the criteria for Google to remove it on your behalf, you may have to contact the domain directly to get it removed.

This is not an ideal option because there is no overarching committee or administrator to enforce the request. Even so, it can be a useful “break glass in an emergency” option. Many domains are usually reasonable and will retract the pages as soon as requested. Of course, if the domain refuses to cooperate, you may need to seek legal advice, but this should not be necessary.

Getting Google to yank information or images about you might be a surprisingly straightforward process. It can also be challenging at times. Contacting the domain’s owner once you’ve discovered a domain containing content negatively affecting you is as easy as sending an e-mail or making a phone call. Unfortunately, if the domain refuses to remove the posts, you may have to battle a little more.

With that in mind, there’s also the issue of locating offensive material. This, on the other hand, can be handled just as quickly, and you don’t even have to be the one to do it.

Detecting Negative Posts

You may need to investigate to locate posts that harm your reputation. In some circumstances, it’s as simple as looking yourself up on Google to check whether any posts have an impact on your image. However, doing this amount of research might be inconvenient when you have your own life to attend to. Fortunately, some businesses will look into it for you and keep an eye out for references of your name on social media and other easily accessible web pages.

This is a valuable tool because you can’t fix these pages until you know about them. Once the pages have been located, you can begin the process of having those who were looking for you submit the takedown requests we discussed earlier in this post. At this stage, the 3rd party you engaged acts as your agent and can submit proposals on your behalf. We understand that entrusting your reputation to another person can be a scary prospect, but it saves time and ensures that the work gets done.

The only thing left to do is choose a representative who can provide thorough service.
